Boys Travel BasketballYouth RecreationTryouts for grades 4th-8th boys travel basketball will take place in mid-September with the season running November through March. Tryouts for grades 7-8 will be on the same day, but with their season running January through March. Boys and Girls Youth Volleyball LeagueYouth RecreationThe purpose of the Community Education Volleyball League is to provide students with an opportunity to learn and develop volleyball skills, play games in an organized setting, understand good sportsmanship and teamwork, and have fun! We will be joining an outside league - the Tecumseh Youth Volleyball league. Practices will take place ONCE A WEEK on Tuesdays OR Thursdays at a Saline school but games will be played at Tecumseh High School where we will compete against other schools in the league. Teams that are a part of the league are Tecumseh, Onsted, Hudson, and Chelsea. A game schedule will be shared by the league. This league is designed for both beginning and experienced players, and no previous volleyball experience is required. This league is open to all girls in grades 3-4 and 5-6 and boys in grades 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8. And will run 6 weeks of practices and 6 weeks of games. Beginning the week of September 7, practices will be held once a week on weekdays (practices will be scheduled on Tuesdays or Thursdays) and will run for an hour. Practice times and locations may vary from team to team. Games will be scheduled on Sundays beginning September 13 and run until October 18. Players need a jersey to participate in this league. Returning players may use their jersey from last year. New jerseys can be purchased with United Image Group at SalineSpirit.com. Volunteers are needed to coach each team! Registration ends online Friday, August 21. More information will posted online at salineschools.arux.app as it becomes available. Dance Team Kids CampYouth RecreationThe Saline Varsity Dance Team is excited to host our Dance Team Kids Camp this fall! This camp is open to all Saline students in K-5th Grade who love to dance, have fun, and learn new skills. Participants will enjoy a three-hour camp led by the Saline Varsity Dance Team head coach and team members. Throughout the camp, dancers will learn fundamental dance technique, build confidence, and practice a fun routine that they will perform alongside the Saline Varsity Dance Team. At the conclusion of camp, family and friends are invited to attend a special showcase where participants will perform everything they have learned. This is a wonderful opportunity for young dancers to gain real dance team experience while making new friends, building skills, and being mentored by the talented young women of the Saline Varsity Dance Team. Fall Youth Field Hockey LeagueYouth RecreationJoin us for a FUN Fall field hockey league for grades 3rd/4th and 5th/6th!! The season will run 6-8 weeks, depending on the game schedule given. Games will start on Sunday, September 20th. Practices for the season will begin Wednesday, September 9th. The team will practice one night a week for one hour at the Liberty School gym on Wednesdays, 6-7 pm. Games are scheduled on Sundays from 12pm to 6pm, at Ann Arbor-area schools. Sundays are used in the fall due to Michigan football scheduling. You will receive a schedule of games and locations at a later date. Intro to Cheer - 2nd GradeYouth RecreationIs your athlete interested in starting their cheer journey? Our Intro to Cheer Clinic for 2nd graders is the perfect place to begin! With growing interest and excitement around the Saline Cheer program, there’s no better time for young athletes to get involved and learn what cheerleading is all about. This 6-week clinic is designed to introduce athletes to the fundamentals of cheerleading in a fun, supportive environment. Participants will learn basic motions, chants, jumps, and beginner skills while also focusing on the proper and safe techniques used in cheerleading. Our goal is to help athletes build confidence, teamwork, and school spirit while having fun with their peers. Athletes will also get the opportunity to be part of the larger Saline Cheer program experience by participating in special events throughout the season. Kick Start Karate - Fall 2026Youth RecreationThe Kick Start Karate Program offers traditional martial arts training to children ages 6 through 12 and emphasizes self-defense, physical fitness, conflict resolution, teamwork and anti-kidnapping techniques. This program is designed specifically for children and teaches prevention first. It does not promote active aggressiveness, but teaches children to respect themselves, others and the skills they learn. There is no better program for kids! Wear loose fitting clothes. Middle School Competitive CheerYouth RecreationJoin the Saline Middle School Competitive Cheer Team! Register for Tryouts! Open to 6th–8th grade Saline Middle School students ready to build skills, work hard, and compete. Athletes will focus on stunting, jumps, motions, and tumbling in a team-centered environment. Practices are Monday–Friday, 6:30–8:30 PM, with tumbling on Mondays included in the registration fee. The team will compete in 7–9 competitions, typically held on Thursday evenings or Saturdays, with a possible Friday event. All practices are mandatory. What is Michigan Competitive Cheer? Michigan competitive cheer has three judged rounds, all performed without music: Round 1 (JV/Varsity only): Group chant with motions and voice projection Round 2: Motions, jumps, and standing tumbling Round 3: Tumbling, stunting, and jumps Only 16 athletes can compete per round. If 10 qualify for Round 2, then only 14 can be in Round 3. We cannot guarantee every athlete will compete in each round or both rounds, but everyone learns all rounds to stay prepared. We do our best to give each athlete mat time, but we also need to build routines that align with the score sheet to set the team up for success. There is no set limit on the number of athletes overall. Cuts may or may not happen, depending on skill level and team needs. Early registration helps us plan for the possibility of one or two teams. Middle school field hockey is for those interested in playing in high school or who simply want to learn about this great sport in a fun, competitive team atmosphere. Players will learn technical and tactical skills, game strategy, game rules, and how to play as a cohesive unit. Practices will begin the week of Monday, August 31st. Middle School RowingYouth Recreation6-8th grade Middle School Rowing is for students who enjoy being active, on the water, or anyone new wanting to try the sport in a positive team environment. Middle School Rowing will offer students the chance to experience fun learning a new skill, while training hard and competing in a possible scrimmage concluding the season (on a Saturday). Middle School rowing is offered 3 days a week - Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays to allow athletes the ability to adjust to the new sport and training dynamics with Coach Bob Florka. In order to participate, all rowers are required by Saline Area Schools to have a current physical on file, dated after April 15th. Additionally, athletes and parents must sign a waiver that states the athlete can tread water for a minimum of 10 minutes. We will host an informational meeting on August 14th at 7:00pm in the High School Media Center for all fall rowers (High School & Middle School).
