7th Grade Jazz BandYouth Music and Theatre7th Grade Jazz Band is open to all middle school students enrolled in curricular band, orchestra, or choir. Students will be introduced to the world of jazz through different styles of music including swing, rock, and Latin. Students will learn the basics of improvisation and the 12 bar blues. Any band instrument is welcome. We also need drum set, guitar, bass, and piano. If you are interested in any of these instruments, you will sign up for a very brief audition in the band room. Students will expand upon their knowledge of the jazz world by engaging in more challenging repertoire of various styles including swing, rock, funk, and Latin. Students will deepen their knowledge of improvisation through soloing over a 12 bar blues and in their concert music. Any band instrument is welcome. We also need rhythm section instruments that include the drum set, guitar, bass, and piano. If you are interested in these instruments, you will sign up in the band room for a very brief audition. Saline Middle School Fiddle ClubYouth Music and TheatreExplore a mix of fun, rhythmic music and become a part of the Saline fiddling tradition! By grooving with the bow and expanding on techniques learned in orchestra, students will explore groove based music from all around the world with Mr. Briere and friends. The Saline Middle School Fiddle Club is for music students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades with experience performing on the violin, viola, cello, bass, guitar, mandolin, or drumset. Students enrolled in the Saline Middle School orchestras, choirs or bands are eligible to participate. The SMS Fiddle Club meets Wednesday mornings before school. WaitlistYouth Theater GuildYouth Music and Theatre“The play’s the thing!” Youth Theater Guild is a theater class for students in grades 2nd-8th grade. We will mount a full, non-musical/straight play production based on a popular children’s book. In the process of learning and rehearsing the show, we will focus on important drama concepts including: audition tips, effective use of voice, face, and body in creating a character, scene interpretation, creating emotional levels, and effective pacing. Students will familiarize themselves with basic stage areas and commonly used theatre terminology and concepts. Students of all ability and experience are welcome!
