Middle School Competitive CheerYouth RecreationJoin the Saline Middle School Competitive Cheer Team! Register for Tryouts! Open to 6th–8th grade Saline Middle School students ready to build skills, work hard, and compete. Athletes will focus on stunting, jumps, motions, and tumbling in a team-centered environment. Practices are Monday–Friday, 6:30–8:30 PM, with tumbling on Mondays included in the registration fee. The team will compete in 7–9 competitions, typically held on Thursday evenings or Saturdays, with a possible Friday event. All practices are mandatory. What is Michigan Competitive Cheer? Michigan competitive cheer has three judged rounds, all performed without music: Round 1 (JV/Varsity only): Group chant with motions and voice projection Round 2: Motions, jumps, and standing tumbling Round 3: Tumbling, stunting, and jumps Only 16 athletes can compete per round. If 10 qualify for Round 2, then only 14 can be in Round 3. We cannot guarantee every athlete will compete in each round or both rounds, but everyone learns all rounds to stay prepared. We do our best to give each athlete mat time, but we also need to build routines that align with the score sheet to set the team up for success. There is no set limit on the number of athletes overall. Cuts may or may not happen, depending on skill level and team needs. Early registration helps us plan for the possibility of one or two teams.
